About Terrain By Hand
Hello! Thank you for visiting my website!
My name is Chris, aka “Terrain By Hand”, and I work on all things “terrain-y” from my home workshop in Lowestoft, Suffolk.
Here I am proudly displaying some of my work at a local tabletop gaming event:
Building terrain is my labour of love – it can require a lot of time and effort, as well as stacks of materials and tools! But, in my opinion, the addition of hand-crafted or hand-finished terrain makes a huge difference on the gaming table.
With Terrain By Hand, I like to keep things simple. Though a lot of what I do is scratch-built, not everything needs to start from a blank canvas. There is a plethora of MDF kits, plastic terrain & 3D printed options out there – I try to utilise whatever I can if it means helping someone get terrain onto the table!
I pride myself on my ability to visualise terrain on the table and, where practical, make it accessible across multiple game systems. This not only reduces the cost for clients, but saves on storage space, too! Take the range of handcrafted “Rocky Outcrops” as an example – they are perfect for immersing yourself in the fight for Geonosis, but can equally act as an owlbear’s lair – where she lurks, protecting her young from wandering adventurers:
Large, custom boards pose their own challenges – but I enjoy the process! There is no feeling quite like seeing a large-scale project come to life, such as the Castle Naerytar piece pictured below:
Whilst I have a lot of experience working at 25mm/32mm scale – I am also open to working on projects of other scales, such as miniature wargaming (e.g. Bolt Action), or even model railways!
Using skills honed through years of designing and building terrain pieces for our personal use, I am here to work with you to realise your vision.
So, if you would like something crafted, upgraded, or just painted; please get in touch today, and I will do what I can to help to make it a reality!
